Squishy Fun with Crayola Glitter Dots

I'm a neat freak. An honest to God neat freak. I have a hand vacuum in the dining room, charged and ready, that I use to sweep the floor every time the girls are done eating. I have a dedicated cleaning schedule that I stick to every week. I hover around my daughter after she brushes her teeth so that I can swoop in after and clean up the water and blue toothpaste bits she leaves on the sink. Folding clothes is my favorite activity. I clean up my kids' toys every hour, only to have them make another mess that needs cleaning five minutes later. Because I'm that organized. And I'm insane.

So when my girls beg to play with glitter, I bet you can imagine the panic attack that erupts inside me. It's always a hard no. Sophie brought home a huge butterfly that she had painted in art class that was my favorite thing she has done so far...until I realized it had glitter on it. Gold glitter. That fell onto my white kitchen floor constantly. But it was so beautiful that I kept it hanging all through summer. But the glitter. It killed me.

Luckily I got a second chance to embrace glitter in a different way (and finally give my girls the joy they so desperately wanted from glitter). Through the amazing company Tryazon, I was selected to host a Crayola Glitter Dots Party! My husband laughed at me for days when he found out. I'm sure he was envisioning my glitter panic face, but when I heard these make little mess, I was ready and willing to give it a try. I got sent a TON of awesome glitter dot supplies from Crayola. And so I started calling up my friends, family, and neighbors to have them come try them out.

We were sent 24 packs of glitter dots in 3 different colors (Bold, Classic, and Tropical). We also got sent glitter dot kits to try (Keychains, Sparkle Fills, and Signs). I decided to have an open house of sorts, since we had friends and neighbors who were planning to drop in at varying times. We had all ages of kids, teens, and adults come and they all agree that the glitter dots were super fun! Some people chose to do the kits and some decided to use the glitter dots on objects I had gotten, like wood cutouts, birdhouses, and containers.

I know you're wondering how I felt about these and let me tell you...they were amazing! The glitter dots came in a package where they are contained until you peel back the film to get them out. Once out, you could squish and smoosh them on your surface to spread them. It was super easy and fun. We did find that smooshing them on the wooden birdhouses was a lot harder to do, as they didn't really dry or stick very well. But with a little patience, it could be done, and I later covered the birdhouses with clear polycrylic to be used outside.

The keychain kit was the most fun out of all the kits. You could squish the glitter dots into the ridges of the keychain to make pretty designs and then cover them to maintain the integrity of the glitter. Thread and beads were included to complete the keychains. Super fun! The sparkle fills were a little more tricky, as it was hard to get the glitter to stay in the spaces and stick without getting it all over your fingers or the floor. Luckily, the glitter doesn't get everywhere and it's easy to wash off.

As everyone joined the party, we watched videos about Crayola and Tryazon and I explained the party and companies to them. I had a laptop out where people could leave reviews or purchase products. We snacked on appetizers and just had fun! The best part was the look on my girls faces when they finally realized they could play with glitter. And they haven't stopped talking about doing glitter dots since!

While yes, there is a little mess to these, it is absolutely nothing compared to traditional glitter that you would have to dispense from a container full of loose glitter. These Crayola Glitter Dots made the experience easy, fun, and overall, not so messy! The glitter that may have come off on fingers could easily be wiped into the trash or washed off. A quick sweep of the vacuum after picked everything else up. So this mom gives glitter dots a HUGE thumbs up. And I'm happy to say that we can now play with glitter in this house!
