Seventh Generation Laundry Detergent

In this house, I'm always doing laundry. It's an all day event. I try to do it only one day a week, but oftentimes, it's twice a week. Usually every Thursday I load up the washer at 7 am and continue washing and drying 4-5 loads until 5 pm. It's exhausting but has to be done. I'm really looking forward to the day the girls can start folding their own clothes and eventually washing them as well. All in good time...

Anyways, you all know how much I dislike chemicals (and even fear them to some extent). I don't know why I never thought that laundry detergent had some yucky stuff in it. I guess I just figured it was washing my clothes, so why would it be that bad? Well, after a little research, the yuck factor is real. Lots of chemicals you don't want! I was pretty shocked, to say the least. I thought I really was good at keeping chemicals out of my house! I had tended to steer away from natural laundry detergents because I didn't think they'd make my clothes smell as fresh and they were quite more expensive than the deals I got on my Tide pods.

I'm a member of the online community at Seventh Generation, and they sent over a few samples of their lavender laundry detergent.

I was excited that I could try it out before committing to buying a large bottle that might not possibly work. And so on my next laundry day I decided to give them a try.

I did three loads with these samples; my kids clothes, mine and my husband's clothes, and my husband's disgusting sport clothes (which are always a true delight to smell). I found that these washed our clothes perfectly! It powered through stains and I felt really safe and comfortable knowing that I wasn't using any harsh or yucky chemicals.

I did find that the scent wasn't as strong or long lasting as it was when I used Tide or Gain. Especially when it came to my husband's sport clothing. This definitely didn't do much to get rid of his sweat smell...even when I mixed in a couple cups of vinegar to soak them in. But then again, I haven't really found a detergent that can get rid of his pit stain smells at all (sorry hubby!).

So overall, I will be using this detergent from now on because I can feel safe knowing that my family's clothes are not getting the yucky chemical treatment. But I will also be buying some natural scent boosters to up the fragrance smell in every load as well.
